The following are lyrics to "Bye, Bye Miss American Pie."

But February made me shiver
With every paper I delivered
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died

I interpreted these lyrics to mean the two following things.
First, I thought it was talking about the Vietnam war when it says
"Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride."

I also believe it is talking about when the plane crashed carrying Holly, Valens, and Richardson.
